Northern Oman - Self Drive 4WD

Muscat 07 Days / 06 Nights

Day – 01: MUSCAT  

Arrive Muscat. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the hotel.  

Overnight at Muscat Hotel.   

Day – 02: MUSCAT  

0900 hrs Briefing and delivery of 4WD.  

Muscat offers the visitor a unique opportunity to witness a modern commercial center existing in harmony with its traditional culture. With its natural harbor, Muscat means “Anchorage” & lies in a natural volcanic bowl. Our tour of the Grand Mosque (Ladies fully covered with scarf and shorts not allowed for men) (except Friday) & the Bait Al Zubair Museum (except Friday) is a brief introduction that traces Oman’s history and development. Drive along the waterfront Corniche visiting the Fish Market. 1600 hrs We proceed for a photo stop of the magnificent Al Alam Palace, the residence of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos flanked by the 16th-century Portuguese forts Mirani & Jalali. Visit the colorful Muttrah Souq.  

Overnight stay at Muscat hotel of your choice. 

Day – 03: MUSCAT- MUSSANAH  

0800 hrs: Visit the Seeb Fish Souq by the seaside. Drive through the date palms to the sparkling springs at Nakhl. Visit the Nakhl Fort and proceed for a visit of the beautiful Wakan Village famous for its fruit terrace farming. Our next stop is to Wadi Abhyad which has large patches of white sedimentation and when translated means white wadi. The wind drives through the mountains with small pools of water dotting the wadi bed.  

Overnight stay at Barcelo Mussanah      

Day – 04: MUSSANAH –AL HAMRA – NIZWA 

 0800 hrs: Depart from Barcelo Mussanah and head North towards Al Awabi. Turn towards Wadi Bani Auf . This stretch of graded road is very adventurous & for the physically fit only as it involves steep bends and bumpy roads. Visit the charming mountain village of Bilad Sayt where one is awestruck by the beauty of the landscape. This 70 km stretch of road continues unto the village of Al Hamra famous for its date plantations. Visit the ruined village at Tanuf before checking into the hotel.  

Overnight stay at Golden Tulip Nizwa Hotel. 

Day – 05: NIZWA  

0800 hrs: Visit the famous Round Tower Fort, built in the 17th century, and its Souq renowned for its Friday cattle auction, intricately handcarved “Khanjars”(daggers)& ornamental silver jewelry.  

Visit Misfah, a pretty mountain village with stone dwellings still in existence. While heading for Jebel Shams stop at the terrace farming village of Wadi Ghul. Drive to Wadi Nakher. In the Jebel Akhdar range, Jebel Shams is the highest peak, which offers a spectacular view.  

Overnight stay at Golden Tulip Nizwa Hotel.  

Day – 06: NIZWA – WAHIBA – SUR  

0800 Hrs Enroute Wahiba stop at Oman Across Ages Museum opened in Manah aiming to highlight the unique character of the Sultanate of Oman and introduce its ancient history and renaissance with the use of some advanced technology.  The Museum’s enormous size is impressive in and of itself. It has cafés, social and study rooms, galleries, a library, and an auditorium. The area dedicated to permanent exhibits alone is 9,000 square meters, and some of the galleries rise more than 20 meters. Explore a comprehensive journey through time at the museum dating through several centuries, empires, and civilization’s, beginning with the earliest prehistoric immigrants and finishing in contemporary Oman.  

Proceed this morning towards Wahiba Sands a vast mass of undulating red and white sea of sand dunes rising up to 200 meters are also host to a variety of flora and fauna The ever -changing patterns of the dunes are a photographer’s delight . Visit a Bedouin house in this wilderness .  (Oman Across Ages Museum on Friday Timing: 1300 Hrs onwards) 

Overnight stay at Best Western Sur Hotel  

Day – 07: SUR – MUSCAT  

0800 hrs:  Visit the fish jetty and dhow factory.  Drive via the coastal road to Muscat. Arrive Sur and visit the traditional dhow factory. (Dhowfactory is closed on Fridays). Photo stop of Fatah Al Khair a ship which is currently a part of an open-air museum which is dedicated to the shipbuilding lineage of the city of Sur in Oman. Built over 70 years ago, the wooden fishing vessel of Fateh Al Khair has strong historical significance to it. It was brought back to Yemen, restored, and grounded on dry land. The ship is said to be hand-built without any nails, and hand-woven ropes were used to shore up. Visitors are not permitted to climb up the dhow but can get up close to look at the flanks. Visit Al-Ayjah Lighthouse from outside was built by the Portuguese, and in the past, it was a defensive tower, turned into a lighthouse used to guide wooden dhows safely to Lake Tyre. (Outside visit only). Drive onwards and stop at Fins beach for a swim. Our next stop is the Bimah Sinkhole, a spectacular limestone crater with blue-green water at the bottom. Proceed to Wadi Arbayeen which has refreshing deep pools of water set among the date palms. (Dhow factory Closed on Friday).  

Return to Muscat via Mazara and check in at your hotel in Muscat of your choice.
